Past

Nathanahel was born Pyotr Yulyevich Volkov in early nineteenth century Russia. His mother was a Russian noble, and his father a gypsy. Neither of their families approved of their love, at first. They tried to discourage both of them from pursuing a relationship. They said that they would never work out. They were from different world, but the more they tried to pull them apart the more they were drawn to each other. Eventually, his mother's father became fed up. He told her that she was going to end things with her gypsy or he was going to disown her. However, this threat did not work in the way he had intended it. Pyotr's mother told her father fine, and just left. Her mother told her father to go after her, but he refused. He told his wife that their daughter would be back. She will realize that life as a gypsy was not as glamorous as she believed, and she will return home because she will miss the comforts of home.

This never came to pass. It was true that life among the gypsies was very different than the one she was used to living, but after an adjustment period she found herself happier than she ever thought was possible. She came to love those of the gypsy tribe she found herself loving them as much as she loved Pyotr's father, and they came to share her affections. Eventually, Pyotr's parents were married, and it wasn't long afterwards that his mother gave birth to the first of their seven sons. Pyotr was the youngest, and it was clear from day one that he was a momma's boy. The first six years of his life was a happy yet uneventfully one, but that all changed when they made the mistake of staying upon the wrong lands.

This was not the first time that such a mistake was made. The gypsy people have an ill reputation, and as such most don't find their presence very welcoming. They have learned to look for those whom will be more tolerant of them, and every once in awhile they miscalculate someone's tolerance level for them or they mistakenly stay on the land of someone whom cannot stomach their people. It was the latter which had been their mistake this time. The landowner was not happy they were staying on his lands. They apologized and promised to pay for the stay. However, the landowner did not trust their word. Gypsies are known liars. He said they all should be killed. The only good thief was a dead one. However, before he could make any attempt upon Pyotr's people, another step forward and payed the man.

He told Pyotr's people that they were free to stay upon his land, as long as they want. An offer they took without question. There were very few whom were as tolerant of them that they were not going to shun the offer. However, it soon became clear he did not do this out of the kindness of his heart. He wanted payment from them. He did not wish to receive money, but instead he wished for their children to come work for him. They agreed. This was not the first time such a request was made, and they saw no reason to deny it now. They quickly realized their mistake. Their children came back broken or not at all. They confronted the man. They demanded to know what happened to their children--whether they were broken or didn't return. The man refused to answer them. He merely told them that they had agreed to the price.

They told him that they had agreed for their children to work for him not for them to be broken or stolen, and they were not just going to stand by and let it continue. They told him that they had more than paid their debt to him, and now they were going to take their leave. They had expected the man to argue, and tell them that their debt was nowhere near being paid off, but he did no such thing. He simply just smiled at them, and bid them farewell. Some claimed that it was too easy, and the man was going to come collect the full weight of what he thought they owed him later. Others said that they had already paid their debt ten times over, and the man knowing this have no reason to protest their desire to leave. It soon become clear that those whom believed he would return to collect what he thought they owed him were right.

He came and stole their children in the middle of the night. While they never proved he was directly responsible they knew within their hearts he was. They did everything in their power to prevent their children from being taken, but nothing they did worked. Everyday they awoke to find one or two of their children missing. Like before-- when they had been staying upon the lands of the man-- some of these children would return broken. Parents became afraid to let their children out of their sight, and they awoke at the slightest sound. However, if there is a will there is a way, and no matter how close parents kept their children or how light sleepers they were the dawn brought the same news---one or two children missing, and no one recalling hearing anything that might lead them to suspect that such a thing was occurring.

This continued for several nights until Pyotr was taken. He had not been the target, but he ended up being taken just the same. He awoke in the middle of the night to screaming, and he knew what was happening--another child was being taken and she was making as much noise as possible in an attempt to get someone's attention. However, it soon became clear that this was all in vain. Pyotr found everyone within his tent sound asleep and they did not stir an inch no matter how hard he tried to wake them. It soon became clear that time was running out, and that if he wanted to save the screaming child he needed to act now. He moved after the sounds of the screams, and trying to format a plan as he went.

It didn't take him long to reach the source, and his desire to save whomever was being taken increased when he noticed that the child being taken was his best friend---a little girl whom was a year younger than him. Any plans he might have come up with while he had been chasing the screams went out the window. He just acted, and tried to tackle the man. However, a six year old child was nothing more than a gnat to a man built like a mountain. This man seized Pyotr, and asked what do we have here? The man held Pyotr in the air and took a few moments to examined him. Pyotr did not let this discourage him. He was bound and determined to save his friend. He begun to kick and punch at the man, demanding he let him go. This only amused the man, whom after awhile flung Pyotr over his shoulder and took him away. His rescue attempt worked. Pyotr saved his friend, and it didn't take him long to discover exactly what he had saved her from.

His wildest imagination could not prepare him for what came next. He was brought inside a room with countless cages. Most of these cages were filled with children. Some he recognized for his tribe. He was going to save them. This is what he told himself. He was thrown into one of the cages, and told to get some rest because tomorrow his training begun. The training was grueling--both physically and mentally. Most of all they did everything within their power to strip him of his former identity. They told him that he was no longer Pyotr Yulyevich Volkov, but instead he was simply Nathanahel. They beat him whenever he refused to accept this fact, which was often. This did not discourage him. The more they beat him the more he clung to his old identity, and the more he clung to his old identity the more they beat him.

After a few more weeks of this, the man whom had allowed his people to stay upon his land for a price told them to throw him with the wolves. Upon hearing this, Pyotr was filled with dread. He knew what happened to those whom ended up with the wolves. He had seen it happened, and he did not want that. He begged and pleaded not to be thrown with the wolves. He promised he would be good. He swore he would be Nathanahel. This only amused the man whom have given the order, and he told him that off course you will be Nathanahel before tossing him with the wolves. It didn't take long for him to be attack by a wolf, and Pyotr thought he was going to be food. He knew he was going to die, but he swore he would not do so without a fight. The wolf did not eat him. It bit him this is true, but it moved away as soon as this was done.

The change occurred right away, and from the expression of those outside the cage---including the man whom had ordered him to be tossed into the cage--go could see that this was unusual. He tried to fight it, tried to extinguish the fire within his veins that was causing his bones to snap and reform, but this was all done in vain. He was changing, and it was the most painful thing he had ever endured. After a few moments, the amusement of the man whom had tossed him into the cage became abundantly clear. He turned his eyes towards Pyotr whom had completed his transition and said. "Aren't you a pretty one, I'm going to enjoy you very much." These words did not please the wolf whom had bitten him, because she moved to stand between Pyotr and the man, letting out a low growl.

The man turned raged filled eyes towards this wolf. "I will do with my property as I want, Sahila" and than ordered Nathanahel brought to him because it was clear that Sahila had already grown too attached to him. Nathanahel became this man's personal pet. Wherever he want Nathanahel followed, but he was not a pretty thing just for display. He used Nathanahel to kill and maim. He used him to further any goal he might have. This continued for many years until one day Nathanahel lost his master. It was unclear how this happened. Had his master been killed, vanished, or in the chaos of the war they had been taking part in were they just merely separated. Whatever the truth, Nathanahel did not find himself without an owner for long.

He was found by another whom decided to use him for the war effort, but he did not stay with this new owner for long. He found himself being moved from owner to owner---each using him as a weapon to further their own goal. For many years, this was the way of things than one day it was decided that he was no longer needed upon the field of battle. But, what did you do to weapons that no longer has a use? The answer--in Nathanahel's case---was obvious, and that was give him to the pit. The pits were a place of depravity. It is a place where the only rule is if you are strong enough to take something it is yours, and it is the place where those wolves without a trace of humanity are sent to live out their days---often for the entertainment of others.

Present

Nathanahel became one of these entertainment. He was put into fighting pits. Where the only rule was kill or be killed. He quickly became a crowd favorite. He was savage and without mercy. It did not matter what they tossed into the ring with him, he did not hesitate to end it. That was until the day that a human named Elyse ended up in the ring with+ him. He didn't know what it was about her, but there was something about her that awoke the human inside him. He remembered he was more than a savage beast whom only thirst for blood, and he leapt to her defense. In that moment, he vowed to always stand as her protector. He swore that he would not allow anyone to steal her light as they did his. He swore he would not allow anyone to treat her as anything less than what she was. Through, no one knew of this promise. It was made in silence during the moments between her waking his human aspect and his decision to protect her.

He followed Elyse around, and was never too far from her side. Eventually, he took his human form---a form he had not taken since he had been changed into a wolf. He honestly thought that such a form was lost to him, and while he finds himself more at ease within his wolf form he is finding himself becoming more comfortable with his human one with each passing day. He has told anyone whom cares to ask that his name is Nathanahel Volkov. He gives them no clue to whom he might have been. He does tell them that he had been a gyspy, but as far as he is concerned Pyotr is dead. The boy had died a long time ago. The day he was made into a wolf, and if not than each and every time he was shaped and sharpened into a weapon.

He doesn't know what the future will bring, but he believes whatever the future might hold that Elyse will be apart of it. He has slowly been meeting those whom is important to Elyse, and the most recent was her younger sister Faith. They both decided to join forces to remove Elyse's boyfriend from the picture---a man from what Nathanahel has come to understand is an abusive asshole and one if he did nothing about would mean breaking his promise.
